This is my longest running experiment. No, it is not a “Dashcam” like they sell online but I use a real digital camera mounted to the windshield of my car. I originally did this with a film camera but film was expensive and not much came of it. Once digital cameras became available, I used a Nikon 8800 camera mounted to the windshield of my ’99 Suburban. The mount was made from a rear view mirror of a ’69 Ford and I used a glue kit commonly available at auto parts stores. I still use that mount today and it is on my 2018 Suburban. Originally I thought random pictures during the day would be fun but then I quickly learned that the night photos were the best. Of course you get the movement of the car but by keeping the camera steady on the windshield, it creates a cool soft look to the road but does not have the jagged camera shake. I usually set the focus and aperture and let the camera pick the shutter speed depending on the various lighting conditions. I also found I could do this on a train but since I was not able to mount my camera, I had to hold it steady against the train windshield. Check out the images below.
